Chong Shao, DDS
Dr. Chong Shao was born and raised in Beijing, China and immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1998. He grew up in Iowa City, Iowa supporting the Iowa Hawkeyes and eventually completed his undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Iowa. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Integrative Physiology with honors and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with a distinction in Dental Public Health. He went on to complete a general dentistry residency at the University of Oklahoma focusing on the treatment and care of pediatric and medically compromised patients.
Dr. Shao’s love for the outdoors led him to Denver, Colorado where he practiced in a private practice setting as well as in a mobile setting in order to treat patients in shelters and retirement homes who would otherwise have extreme difficulty obtaining dental care. His love for his now wife, Dr. Katie Nagel Shao, took him next to Greenville, South Carolina where he practiced in a solo doctor practice. Whether it was too much large portions of fried foods, the deathly hot weather or just a desire to be close to family, Dr. Shao and Dr. Katie decided to make the move back their home state. He is excited to be back home in Iowa and values the opportunity of providing the best of care to the residents of Jones County.
He and Katie have two sassy daughters: Evelyn and Elyse; and two energetic dogs: Jadie and Keeva. Chong prefers to spend his spare time outdoors and is an avid skier and hiker. He considers himself an average cook with an insatiable appetite.
