We believe that good dental habits and hygiene need to start right away in life. We are happy to treat even the smallest members of your family! We provide gentle care with the “Tell, Show, Do” model of care so your child always knows what is happening and has nothing to worry or wonder about.
Ideally, your child’s first visit to the dentist will happen around their first birthday or within six months of the arrival of their first tooth.
The First Visit
The first time your child comes to our office we will make the visit as quick and fun as possible, along with getting their teeth brushed. We will take them for a ride in the chair, show them all of the fun supplies we have, have them meet our staff members and brush their teeth. If your child is under the age of three we often complete what is called a knee-to-knee exam. This allows us to take a good look at their teeth along with you and show you how to best brush their teeth! Once they get a little older we will move on to having them sit in the chair and have their teeth polished with the polisher.
Preventive Care
We recommend having your child come to the dentist every six months for cleanings and to review proper hygiene with them. In children, decay can spread very quickly so it is important to maintain regular recall appointments with x-rays. Fluoride treatments at the end of each recall appointment are also recommended to give the teeth an extra boost of fluoride to help keep the enamel strong. When your child has their permanent molars erupt they may be very groovy and prone to decay. We may recommend sealants to block off those deep grooves and help prevent cavities from starting.
